Has anyone ever removed their 3rd gen hood scoop?

Hey guys,

I just got my hood scoop parts in from Toyota, and it seems like the Dealer left some part #'s off. If anyone has taken apart their hood scoop before, how do you put all the parts together again? I am really trying to see if I can do this myself, before going to the body shop.

If anyone is bored enough to take theirs apart to check it out for me, I would be forever thankful.

Thanks in advance,
Toyota Owner in Need

you need:

the hood
the insert
the wire mesh
the mesh backing piece
the rivets for the mesh backing piece
the nuts for the insert

after paint, you put the mesh backing piece behind the mech, insert them as a unit into the insert. line them up by looking at the holes in the bottom of the insert. insert the rivets and pop them in to keep the mesh in the insert. now drop the insert into the opening in the hood and secure it w/ the nuts from the underside of the hood...

the insert was about $110 about 2 years ago. the mesh and the piece that goes behind it was about $30 or so, and then you add for the nuts and rivets. it's about $150 total, PLUS the cost of the hood.

Bemachem...thanks a lot for all the info. I got my stuff for $125. The dealer gave me a bunch of part #'s I ordered, and I didn't get any nuts, only a cheapo screw, 2 rivets (not 4, again ) and a bunch of glue strip thingies.

When you installed yours, did you use any glue strip thingies (). I have 2 long ones, and some small 90 degree ones etc. etc. I'll post pictures if you want. I am assuming those are either to hold the mesh to the backing better, or to insulate the hood scoop on the hood.

Marko

P.S.:
Sorry if I responded in this thread so late, I was busy.

Well yes and no, depends on how you look at it. You need a special hood anyways that has the buldge for the scoop. The "insert" is just the thing that goes into the hole in the hood to keep air, water and dirt from coming in. Look better with an insert too.
