is this a good deal on a 3rd gen 4runner?

hello all, im in the market for a 3rd gen 4runner. ive come across a 99' 4runner 2wd SR5 (yeah, i know) in imperial jade mica. the truck has about 70,000 miles, it has the highlander/sport package and has almost everything except for leather. the seller is asking 14,000 is this a good deal? ive checked the nada, kbb, and edmunds but some of those prices are unrealistic.

Why own a 4Runner if it don't have 4WD?

Sounds like a good deal, I say go for it! :bigok:

I say run a CarFax on it and buy that sucker...although, I would have to agree with the 2WD problem, I could never go from a 4WD rig to 2WD, just wouldn't cut it for me!

Fink:devil:

I think that's pretty expensive for a 2wd. For a 4wd I would think that would be a good price.

Chris (ravencr) just sold his 4wd runner with 81k for 14,xxx

So you can either get a 4wd with that amount of money, or get a 2wd for A LOT cheaper

Yeah i agree I think you could probably find a better deal. Don't settle for something you don't really want, you'll kick yourself later if you do.

thanks for the replies, i dont plan on taking this truck off road, and besides living in florida where there is nowhere to take advantage of the 4wd i decided on purchasing a 2wd. the only off road this truck will see is probably the beach. now if i lived somewhere like utah or colorado, id probably be leaning toward the 4wd. im not so sure about other parts of the country, but its hard to find a 99-02 with either the highlander or sports package.

I'd offer 13 at most. I picked up my 99 limited with a locker, it had about 75K miles on it a month ago. It's in extremely nice condition, no dings, no stains, etc. I got it for about 500 more than what you'd be paying. IMO, the 4wd's seem to cost about 1,500 more at least than the 2wds.

FYI: I'm sellin my 99 limited 2WD on ebay for $12,500... and I'm in Alabama...

AgRunner06 12-07-2003 07:57 PM

My next vehicle will probably be a 2wd too. I just don't have the need for 4wd and I see no point in spending extra money on the vehicle, gas, and insurance. I'm not sure how much longer I will be in the '93 right now. It's about to be paid off and I'm not sure if I want to jump into another car payment. It's going to be nice to drop her down to liability insurance because my payment right now is over $200 for full coverage and that's without my ticket. :bang:

2wd 4Runners are like switchblades that can only spread butter.

hehe,I keeed.:P

gn86r 12-08-2003 07:14 PM

thanks all for the comments, but i went ahead and picked it up today. i ended up buying the truck for $12,900. which i think is a pretty good deal considering what i see the 3rd gens are going for in my area.

My99 12-08-2003 08:24 PM

If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. Congratulations, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and get better gas mileage than the rest of us.

2WD 4Runners make awesome street trucks. I'd say install a supercharger, Underdog fuel system and water injection, headers & free flowing exhaust, Addcos, 17" wheels and some nice street tires. You won't need to lower it any, but it would sure put up a fight on the drag strip since you're not lugging around 500 extra pounds of 4WD. :bigok:

If it's for the strip then buy a car and go low 12s/high 11s for the same amount of $$$ it'll take that 4Runner to run a 14. (ok,maybe some funny fog will help it into the 13s)

It's my opinion but 2wd Runners (or any 2wd SUV) are just big station wagons but at least a 2wd Runner is honest since 90% of ALL Runners never see off road at all.

It's all good tho' and congrats on the purchase,gn86r.:bigok:
