gen2 alternator help!!

:guitar: :drunk: So it's wierd, my battery is relatively new and is putting out but the only way to start my 95 runner is to jump it. I cleaned the contacts and rewired the battery ground and still nothing. i took out my alternator ( a pita by the way) and i'm going to get it tested tommorrow. does this sound like an alternator problem to you guys? i don't think it has ever been replaced. Oh yea, and when i took out the plug from the back of the alternator there was all this white plastic crap in there. I doesn't seem like there would be a clean connection. is there any way to splice in a new plug? or would i have to rip out that whole assembly from a recked one? any reply is appreciated.

Okay the white fudge should be there, it is some type of electrical contact grease, is helps out joining the two pieces of metal together and keeps water out. Next the batt is "new" and still wont start the truck, well if the alt is giving up due to age it wont fully charge the batt and there will not be enough juice to start, if the alt is good and the batt getting a full charge then it is more than likley the starter that is giving up. You maght want to check on replace/rebuild costs and down times

i got a new one, but it won't fit in the old place. it seems like i'd have to shave the mounting bracket or something. how did you guys do it?
