Front diff breather and filling through it

I am in a bind. My fill plug is toast. I can get the drain plug off. I have read about filling through the breather. So, which one of the two breathers is my differential and can I add gear oil through it. I just had a nightmare weekend removing and booting both CV axles. Thanks!

there's no guarantee that they are still in the original location, you'll just have to follow them to see which is which or disconnect the breather at the differential and attach your own hose for filling.
that will also keep you from having gear lube dripping from the breather when you are done.

The recessed hex in my drain plug started rounding out years ago so I removed it and welded the head of a socket head bolt to it. No issues since.

Have you tried using a cold chisel and hammer to crack it loose?

Damn. I got it. I replied here already, but in my excitement, I forgot to hit send. I ground off the bit I was using to make it shorter and with a flat edge and not beveled. I cleaned out the hole with a pick and degreaser. I used a brass drift and a mallet and knocked the bit in as far as it would go, turned my ratchet to an angle that would allow for the rubber mallet to have the best arc and POP! Such a good feeling. Thank you, all!

^ Cool. That plug has some sort of magic threads, because it's just as tough to loosen each time - regardless of antiseize, etc.

It's NOT the threads. It's the flange, seal, diff. case sandwich on the outside that seizes. Slather THAT with anti-seize and you will have better results. The gear oil takes care of the threads. I still have my factory plug after 19 years in salt happy New Jersey.
