Front cv shaft seal

Need some help on trying to fix the seal on the drivers side inner cv shaft seal, the seal thats on the end of the diff before it goes to the cv shaft.

The seal that you can see if you look at it from under the truck?

The Cv seal is just lightly pressed on and can be removed from the cv shaft with a straight blade screw driver.

Not sure which seal you are talking about.

Give us a pic and I am sure somebody here can help you out!

its to hold the oil in the diff on the drivers side

I will take some pics of my spare cv tomorrow so we can figure out exactly which part you are talking about.

I don't think that this is a huge deal at all. The seal there is really simple. In fact you can pull the entire cv shaft out of the front diff and only loose a tiny bit of oil. Not enough to even show when checking the levels in the diff. The shaft acts like a plug and then the seal just kinda keeps dust and stuff out more than keeping oil in.

we'll see if we can get this straightened out Mon evening.

looking at my old cv's....

I'm assuming that you've bent the metal ring right before the tulip joint while removing it, so you can either:

a.) remove the metal ring from the CV and try to beat it back into shape OR
b.) purloin a new metal ring and put it on

you should say what's actually wrong with it to get better answers than a canned response....

as long as the ring isn't crazy bent, the force of putting the CV back in should make a good seal most of the time.

I belive it is called the inner dust sheild/oil seal and where could i get a new one

Okay I know exactly what part you are talking about now. I am not sure if the auto parts store will sell just the seal.

This part rarely goes bad and usually is still good even if the cv grenades itself. If you have any junk yards that may be a way to go. This part is eay to get on and off the cv but of cours you have to remove the cv first.
