dual ground? this why I am recommending the triple ground strap!
I would also put dielectric on the threads or use some type of copper bristle bottle
brush to clean up the threads on the heads!

No they are single ground iridium plugs, so yes, a dual grounded plug (or triple) would surely help with that. Or as I mentioned earlier a plug with a platium tipped ground strap, often called "dual platium" plugs.

I use anti-seize on the threads.

this is what I believe to be your issue single ground strap plugs are highly discouraged!
try a dual or triple ground plug and the reason I said dielectric instead of anticease is for conductivity but that is null and void since you are using a single ground plug when the dual ground is expressly recommended by toyota and every single ground plug will burn up due to the voltage of the waste spark ignition on these trucks!!!

I'd agree, I don't know why URD recommended these Denso IK22 plugs. I won't be buying them again, but I would like to try the "IRIDIUM TOUGH" with a platinum tipped ground strap. Too bad you have to order them from Europe.

What would you recommend for the supercharged V6 then. I was going to get new plugs tomorrow.

I would definitly recomend the NGK BKUR7ET I think they are great
or like said previously double platnum.

The NGK BKUR7ET I get at advance and they are not listed for our trucks.
you simply have to ask for them! may bee an order day away part!
These plugs are listed for like an audi or some thing.

I would like to try the "IRIDIUM TOUGH" VK22. Too bad you have to order them from Europe. Want to split the shipping with me LOL. If you want something local I don't know. Maybe these copper plugs: http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.ph...6&topic=6373.0

Do those have a screw cap on the end? Did you gap those by any chance?

Wink

No I do not nor did I gap them there is no reason to gap these plugs!
Also there is really no way to measure the gap on these plugs!

They are kinda funny in some manner the ground straps come down
then bend to sit along side the electrode and are cut in a circular cut
so as there is no variance in gap from one end to the other!
The gap is smaller than any gap than I have seen before.
I guess that you could modify the gap but to do it so that the
gap is even all the way across would be very difficult and you would
only make the gap bigger!

I will see about uploading some pics after I get the ones out of my old engine.
for the price they are worth the experience!

after looking at your link these are similar to the NGK's but I think that the NGK do have a solid cap.
I have never had a problem with them coming off!
will pull the plugs take pics and see about hte caps being solid or screw off

To measure the gap on these kinds of plugs, you have to use a "wire" type gap feeler gauge like this (just a random picture of one that I stole from the web):

I wish I had read this post before I installed my NGK single electrode platinums. So basically what you guys are saying, is that with the plugs I put in, they will just wear out faster, and next time I should just go to toyota and buy their plugs, or equivalent?

Thanks

Just the drivers side bank. Unless they were double plats (center and ground strap platinum tipped).

Damnit, I just bought some NGK 7090. They are not like the crappy Bosch tiny platinum speck (which would not spark over 6 psi on my turbo car at the right gap) but the electrode is still platinum and not fat like a normal plug.

Mr. Goat... any update?
I have to do a tune-up/troubleshoot soon and I was wondering what I can try this time.

I hardly drive the 4Runner cause of the horrible ping/knock and the CONSTANT destruction of the cats (4 times replaced and only 52,000 miles on the truck...)
I am always getting misfire and lean codes even after "Gadget" tuned the truck himself.

EDIT: I always ran Sunoco 94 before it went bye-bye, so I have been running various brands of 93 since and have played with some additives such as alcohol to boost the octance... Gas is gas is gas. They only difference is the additive packages.

Nope, I don't know any more right now. I mailed Gadget about this and I'm hoping he finds something out before I need to buy plugs again or Denso decides to sell the Iridium Tough plugs in the US.

If not, I may try those NGKs Eddie mentioned that were 2 steps cooler or break down and order the Iridium Tough plugs from Europe.

Just a question... Did you get the Split Second FTC? (with the kit from URD) If so, any way ou can upload your maps just so I can take a looksie?
There were never enough maps that I could get to compare and I would have to track down a laptop again that I could use with the FTC if I had to play with the numbers.
