Engine trouble NO power when engine warms up

I really need some help with this. 1999 4runner 3.4 with 180k. The engine runs fine when cold but when it gets warm/up to temp it has absolutely NO power (I will get stuck on grass). I will floor the trottle and nothing but a backfire sound from under the hood, but occasionally it will catch, rev to 4000 and will have power for about 2 seconds before cutting out. I unhooked the front O2 sensor and it ran fine for a bit and then the symtoms started again. This only happens when the engine is warm. I did a 1/2 ass job cleaning the MAF in place. I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump and poured fuel injector clearer in the gastank. There is a strange burning smell from the car when this happens. Could my cat be clogged, throttle body, TPS, Temp sensor, MAF O2 sensor? Would like some input before I start replacing everything and throw money into this thing.

you did a half ass job on cleaning the MAF. could be your issue. Like Bryan said, are there any codes?

Yes, I have a P0170 code forgot to mention that. i hit the MAF sensor pretty hard with the brake clean still looked brown though when I was through with it.

You have to clean the elements down in the barrel of the maf not just the exposed bulb. Your conditions seem to be a little more extreme than just a dirty maf. Good luck!

I cleaned the MAF and the throttle body. FYI I threw the MAF from my 97 3.4 in and that didn't make the car run too well at all, so I switched it back (i.e. they are not the same). The truck ran fine for about 30 minutes and then it started bogging down again. I realized I forgot to hook up my front 02 sensor. Hooked it up drove it another 20 minutes no problems, but then threw six CEL codes! P0125 P0171 P0141 P1130 P1133 P1135 I'm guessing it is the front O2 sensor and possibly the rear also. Any thoughts? When I test the O2 sensor I just look for resistance accross the two black wires? At least it doesn't bog down immediately when the engine warms up now.

Thanks!

I know this is my first post. but sound to me like you possibely have a bad ground. if you can look at your wiring diag for your ecm. see if you share a common ground or juction connector somewhere in the circuit of all the affected sys( maf, o2) get my drift. I just had a car that would run fine for about 10 mins and then run like crap. i found a bad junction connection causing high resistance in the map sensor circuit. hope that might help.

Okay. Truck is back to running like crap after warming up. I also blew a hole in my exhaust before the cat (I had JB welded it). Exhaust seems strong coming out of the tailpipe without a delay. I checked the ground on the intake manifold and it seems fine. Please help. I also blew a hole in my radiator trying to tow with the truck. Don't think that is related though but who knows.

Read this and see if it triggers any ideas for you. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0170

Im new at this "tea leaf reading" trouble codes, but I dont think an 02 sensor would be the culprit. Does anyone know if there is a sensor that measures coolant temperature that sends a signal to the ECM? Seems like to me it is still trying to run air fuel mixture for a cold engine, even after the engine warms up. MAF is still a possible cause from what I read.
Read that link and hopefully you can get some ideas on things to check. Wish I could be of more help.

Replaced the cat, O2 sensors and MAF out of a 99 tacoma and truck seems to be running fine for the last two weeks. Gas milage 15mpg sucks, but I'm glad its running.

Next time:

A. Don't ever put brake clean on a MAF sensor.
B. Don't take components like a MAF sensor and 02 sensor from another vehicle.
