Engine Problems
 

Ok Its been like 1-2 months since i did the Deck Plate mod and PVC cap ISR, and now I have been getting funny engine problems. It first started when i was messing arround with some friends on the road and when i gun the 4runner at high rpms on acceleration i would get a popping from the exhaust. My guess is that the engine is backfiring. I dont exactly know why but it does do this whenever i accelerate quickly. Secondly, for the past couple of days after a cold start my exhaust will dispense a smog or smoke. It smells like burning oil not quite sure if it is. And third, i have now noticed oil stains on the drive way, so i am guessing there is a oil leak too. I have a 1998 4runner SR5 2wd, and its been running great, still does actually, just these little problems I have stated that worry me and I would like to know what you yt members think before i go to a mechanic.

Sounds like the dashpot(correct me if im wrong) but I believe it can be adjusted

it would also help if you could find where the oil is coming from

well the oil i am not as worried just need to wash the engine and see where its really leaking from, my bigger concern is the backfire/exhaust popping.

sounds to me like you might have a bad exhust valve that is hanging up . mught want to try the sea foam treatment
