e-locker compatibility

I have a '99 4Runner with v6/auto/e-locker that I need to have rebuilt. What are my options for direct replacement? Years for 4Rs and Tacos. V6 only? Auto only? I'm not worried about ratio because I can run 2wd until mine comes back.

Basically I need to know if an e-locked 3rd from an ‘03 Taco axle code B03A will directly bolt into my e-locked rear ‘99 4R housing axle code A04A?

If you trust the axle codes then one is a 7.5" ring gear and the other is an 8".....they don't interchange.

an option......I can rebuild your 3rd.

Zuk!!! I’m trying to get something usable so I can ship MY 3rd to you. No truck or a rental for 3 weeks isn’t feasible.

With your expertise, would the B-code 3rd fit and run for 500 miles (40 miles at a time) in my A-code axle housing?

The confusion I'm running into is the conflicting information on the internet and nobody having hard numbers.

This page decodes a 2001 Tacoma with axle code B04A as an 8" with 4.56:

But the same company decodes A's as 8" and B's as 7.5"

Or can I pull the 3rd and DS and syran/duct tape the housing shut and run around in front wheel drive?

Kolton5543 04-17-2018 10:32 PM

To start with the syran wrap question, no. The axle shafts are supported by the carrier. Doing this will promptly destroy the rear wheel bearings. If I was in your position, instead of trying to find another e-locked third to use as a temporary replament I would look for another assembled open housing for a 3rd gen runner. It would cost less than a e-locked third and be much easier to find. Plus its close to the same amount of work the swap out. The only real down fall is finding a place to store it afterwards. A third is much easier to shelve than an entire axle.

Kolton you genius. All this time I’ve been trying to make a used 3rd fit my housing, when I had a non-locked housing with a trashed 3rd in my driveway.
