DRL Fuse... Why?

I wanted to turn off the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), so I looked under the hood and found a fuse labeled DRL. I thought, "Wow, this will be easy". So I pulled it.

Well, nothing changed. The DRLs still come on and I cannot tell that anything is affected by the missing fuse. I re-installed it.

Anybody know why this fuse exists?

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere on how to REALLY turn off the DRLs. Point me in that direction if you know how to do it.

Thanks.

The DRL fuse powers the relay that turns off the DRLs, so if you pull it your lights won't go on to normal brightness when you turn the headlight switch on.

Cool answer. How do you know that? Rhetorical... Thanks!

If the 2000 Taco is like the 4Runner, that year used a simple plug on the driver side. its grey, and all you do is unplug it and the DRL's are disabled. Don't get confused by the writeup talking about cutting wires and such (2001+). But this is only if the 2000 Taco & 4Runner is similar in DRL design.
