Hello Yall!

This is my first thread and post... i intend to post often because i am an inquistive person.

In any event, I have a 2002 4runner SR5 with all the toys including moonroof and DVD system with 2 LCD Monitors (i'll post the pics soon). I am on the verge of replacing my headlight bulb to HID type, but with the Day Time Running Lights, i'll probably spend more time replacing the short-lived bulbs. I'm wondering if any one knows how to turn the DRL off?

Also does anyone know where i can buy cheap used parts for 2002 4runner?

:bigok:

Welcome aboard! by "hid type" do you mean a real HID kit, or some blue bulbs...? Ive got a 98 so no DRLs for me!! check the fuse boxes for a DRL fuse/relay. If there is one gank it and see what happens. Otherwise i'm sure someone will chime in here in a second. One cool light mod you can do is on J.A.'s site where you can have the fogs on with the parking lights... and they stay on with the high beams. there is a writeup on it here:

be aware... your wallet will stay thin the more you stay on this forum... its a disease we all share here and it spreads to pretty much anyone that joins... just thought I would warn you :D

Thanks for the welcoming...

this forum is addictive...yet very helpful.

re: HID type light

I meant the blue-type light bulbs... i heard the PIAA lights are decent. I'm eager to try them, but don't want to spend $40 if it's gonna go dead in 2 months with the DRL on. I wish there was a way i can have switch to utilize the DRL.

Thanks for the helpful links...

Woops, forgot about the HID part of your question. I bought a pair of white light/blue core bulbs for about $60. They only lasted a year with DRL on.

PIAA's are crazy bright. They won't last you any longer than a regular halogen bulb though. Plan to spend that amount every year or every other year for new bulbs as I've only seen them sold in pairs.

They are not designed to outlast factory replacements. They are designed to have higher light output for about the same or shorter lifespan of factory ones. So in summary you won't get a longer lasting bulb out of PIAA's but you'll get a brighter one. :)

Hope that helps.

Drl Disable

I am not sure how your runner is but on my 1997 there is a resister block next to the battery (has cooling fins on it and a two wire plug) and I just disconnected that. Happens to be the resister in line with the light in drl mode. I took out the whole block and put the horn for my alarm there.

thanx for the informative replies.

just wondering, so wat type of white/blue light bulb do u recommend? i've seen those non-vibrant rather dim blue light bulbs that don't do justice far as shining light onto the road.

but at the same time, i do not want to have something too bright that it blows/burn my headlight housing.

also, the 02 4runner are H4 size headlights, right?

Yup they are H4's. Stick with a bulb, whose wattage remains 55W/60W. <-- I believe those are the standard #'s, can't recall for sure.

Usually the bulb will say "uses 55/60 but light displays like a 120/130 bulb" or something to that effect.
