Drivetrain problems!!! Help!!!
So I have (had) an Aussie locker in the back. Drive to the gas station and as I round a corner, I hear a devastating BAM! I hit the gas and nothing but RPMs. I put it in reverse and it kicked in like nothing was wrong. And now it drives again. So I took it home, turned a couple wrenches, and popped out the diff. I look at the locker expecting broken/missing springs or shredded teeth or busted crosspin... nothing. It all looks good! Now I suspect the transfer case. So it's back to open diffs for me. Did the Aussie ruin my transfer case? This sound familiar to anyone? Any input appreciated.

Not likely the locker to destroyed your t-case. Sometimes they make harsh noises, this is normal for an auto locker.

I got used to the harsh noises, and figured out how to drive it. Kinda like walking a dog-- you gotta have just the right amount of tension in the driveline-- too much tension and the tires bark.
But the tranny was in gear, and I coasted to a stop while my foot was on the gas. Threw it in R and it went back to normal. I'm stumped. |
