DIS(coil pack) ignition verse Distributer.....3rzfe (2.7)
Does anyone have any insight on what benefits/negatives there are with the DIS distributorless coil pack system vs the standard distributer system? My 97 Tacoma runs the DIS (coil packs) and seems to have problems with water crossings. I'm beginning to think it is the coils getting water around/in them. I can't hang with my buddies tacoma because of this. He has a 96 with the distributer. I believe Toyota changed around late 96 or 97. Any information would be great....especially on how to "water proof" the coil pack system.
sorry about the long post.

Coil packs are usually sealed pretty well. The advantage of a DIS ignition is simple the computer and advance or retard timing without the use of a distributer. With a distributer you have to adjust base timing. I suggest checking your connections and wires. If your wires are bad or grouding out then that would cause what you are talking about as well. Good luck
