Damaged wheel lug threads HELP!!!
 

While trying to free up a "frozen" rotor, the hammer slipped and damaged a couple wheel lugs (the threads). And now the damaged ones have the lug nuts on them but are as far as they'll go which, they aren't going anywhere and i'm sure the other 3 or 4 good lugs are enough to hold the wheel on. I guess what i'm asking is if anyone knows what parts I should order to fix this problem. Should I replace the entire front hub?? Or are the lugs where you can replace them individually? Please help!! Thanks.

I got a lug replaced on our Accord for $45, just for comparison. And the Accord does not have floating discs like the 4Runner.

if you've damaged the threads it's probably easiest to go buy replacement studs at your autoparts store. i believe you'll have to pull the rotor off and bang them out. i've done it for my rear drums, but not discs.

if you cant get your lugs off the stud, cut them off and replace the studs and lugs.

replacing them isn't hard, just time consuming. 3 or 4 will get you to the parts store and back no prob

not sure on the setup, however wit ha lot of floating rotors, the studs are actually part of a hub assemble and not connected to the rotor at all... the hum might have to be removed.. some instances though, all you have to do is take the rotor off and the hub will have access to the rear and just pound it out... then press the new one in from the face side with large washers and a open end acorn nut backwards so its flat....

I had 3 bad lugs on one of my front wheels. I went to get my tires balanced at dicount tire and they where like 3 of your lugs are cross theaded. Luckly merchants tire was the last one to pull the front wheel when they screwed me with some tire rods. I luckly got them to fix them for free. If I had had to pay for it it was like 3 hours labor and like $30 in parts. I ended up getting them to replace all 6 and I just paid for 3 of them. You do have to pull the hub and that is why the labor is so high. Cheapest price around here I could find to do it parts included was $200.

If replacing the lug requires pulling the hub you can try running a thread chaser on the lug to clean it up.

Or you can buy a thread file and clean up the threads

It's seriously like a 15 minute job to swap out the studs. With the help of a friend, we took care of one on my Taco.

(Don't pay anyone more than 30 minutes labor for the entire set of six, if you do end up going to the dealer.)
