Cylinders not all firing @ 1200 & 1800 rpm
98 4Runner Ltd feels like it isn't firing on all cylinders @ 1200 & 1800 rpm but showing no error codes. Shop thot it was mass airflow sensor but swapping it didn't cure. It's getting worse & have no clue. Any ideas?
Thanks. Brad

You can check pending codes that haven't popped a CEL yet. A competent shop test things before they start replacing parts. Spark plug condition? Coils at spec ohm? Plug wires arcing? Ground wires in good condition? Compression in cylinders good? Vacuum 16-18hg at idle, and not fluctuating? This should give you a start.

No progress & it's getting progressively worse. There is another thread going "02 Tacoma shuttering..." That was remedied by new plugs/wires. I'm @ 240k miles w the originals and in that thread someone mentioned getting new every 60k. If that's it, I've been on borrowed time for a while!

OH NOOO! Now I'll get pointed at going down the road! Ha!
From what I've read here I'm sure that's the issue. I don't completely understand the rpm connection tho. Wouldn't it misfire arbitrarily?
