Custom paint jobs on 3rd gens
Hey guys I'm repainting my truck this next week (after crazy times trying to repair it from the roll... ) and I'm looking into some different options for painting it.
If you've got any pics of 3rd gens with custom paint jobs / different colors or just cool colors anyway just post em up!! I'm lookin for a little inspiration - and i've been thinking of these colors...
black (because there's just no car like a black car - i've got black now..)
charcoal (just amazing)
burnt orange effect (the one I'm thinking is matching with the Hummer H3x that I saw at the NAIAS auto show 2007...to check the color its on the website, maybe I'll post a link later. it's pretty sweet.)
anyway still got my eyes open so if you've got any pics, post em and i'll make my decision by this time next week! thanks!!

Moro blue on the Audi A3. When clean and polished, it is a sharp looking color.
On Toyotas, I've always loved the all white paint scheme. I almost bought a white Tacoma before I bought my 4Runner. There's a pearl white 3rd gen 4Runner who's owner lives near me. The front and rear bumpers are pearl, the running boards are pearl...so classy!
I also like the Sunfire Red Metallic on the 3rd gens.
HOWEVER...I gave some thought to repainting my truck. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it. I suffer more damage in the city than I do off-road. If I did repaint my rig, it would be two-tone copper. I really rich vibrant copper with a darker bold copper flares and Limited cladding.

I'm a fan of the Stellar Blue Pearl on the 4Runners. It's not a common color. If not that, a light charcoal color would look good.
I'd also like to see what a 4Runner painted Speedway Blue would look like. The color the new Tacoma X-Runners are painted.
I'd stay away from the burnt orange look though. It's ghetto looking IMO.

I would repaint it like it was before the damage. Unless you are looking to spend a fortune and have the entire truck stripped, a repaint in a different color will always be very obvious. Should you ever decide to sell the truck, it will be far easier to find a buyer if everything is the same color.

When I sold my '92 it was silver, but oxidized to all heck. The guy that bought it owned a used car dealership here in town, and I saw it on his lot a couple weeks later. He had painted it black, and MAN, that thing looked good black!
I'd either go with black or maroon.

I regretted buying black when I got my 4runner, but it looks so good when it's clean. There's no shine like a black car shine. It glistens and reflects like no other. On the other hand, I work at a place that is dusty all day. Trucks driving in and out stirring up dust. Just one day and it's filthy. And after it rains, the road milk that collects on the side is exaggerated by the black. And nothing looks dirtier than a dirty black car. So if I want it to look it's best, I have to hit the car wash every day. Which brings up another thing. Chamoising after washing is a must. Water spots form in just minutes and are very noticeable on black paint. Another thing is, black shows chips scratches and polishing marks very well, too well, so well in fact, I regret washing it because i know I'm going to notice scratches and chips that weren't there the last time I washed it. For that I keep a touch up kit in the glove box. In the end, after some good scrubbing and elbow grease, and if it's kept clean, black is very impressive.

Every car I have owned, aside from my 4Runner and my 66 Mustang have been orange (72 Super Beetle & 75 Westphalia camper) So if I were to repaint in a custom color, I would probably go burnt orange with all black accents, same as my 72 Beetle is going to be.
