cool switch idea

somebody posted a pic of one of these switches on the board a couple of weeks ago, and i had to jump all over it! the rocker switches i had originally for my lights would always get flipped on accidentally. these are the perfect solution and they add a lot of character. :mrt: i picked these guys up at Directron.com . 32 clams for the pair.

That is the coolest thing I have seen all day. Nice work.

Very cool switches! Do you kinda have that "clear to fire" feeling when you hit them?

rimpainter.com 03-06-2003 12:57 PM

All you need now is a heads-up lock-on system to nail slow traffic.

:D

thundercat 03-06-2003 12:59 PM

lol... yeah, turning on the lights never felt so good. the problem is... i've been turning them on and off a lot lately! it's hard to resist.

You need to hook it up to NOS and then the "Go Baby Go" button (compliments of Gone in 60 Seconds). Those switches rock!

LOL.

Or hit NOS while yelling "Monica!" (F&F)

Those rock
I was thinking of getting one for the one next to the rear window switch I have setup for my rear lights.

How did you cut the "extra" holes you made in your console?
Looks very nice.

Anybody who spends $32.00 for 2 rocker switches has got to have a complete set of UNI bits. BTW, you're a man after my own heart. When I want it, I WANT IT.

Seiously, one of the nicest additions to anyone's tool box is a set of UNI bit drills. They are worth their weight in gold.

thundercat 03-06-2003 04:08 PM

gotta love unibits! but i just used a couple of regular bits to "dremmel" out a nice hole. it worked out very nicely. it was a tight fit in that location though. because the console is snug over the rear heater/blower unit, i had to go as wide as i could so that the unit could squeeze in between the two switches.

Corey 03-06-2003 04:17 PM

Will that switch also fit in the stock locations where you take the plug out to put in a switch?

I just want to replace my lower one on the console here.

That is my rear lights one.

For those who don't know about UNI bits, they come in three different size ranges and each bit is muilti-sized in assending order. This makes it easy to drill a hole w/o changing bits. Also, one really nice feature is that unlike regular bits, these don't drift (wander) while you are drilling or starting to drill. YMMV

thundercat 03-06-2003 09:05 PM

hey corey,
you can put it in the center console, that's what i was going to do originally, but you would have to drill a hole into one of the blank plugs that fit in there or rig up a little piece of plastic to drill a hole into and fit it in. the switch is just a toggle with a 15/32 stem and two nuts that jam onto each side of the mounting surface. the flip cover just slides over the stem and you put the nut on top of it. you see what i mean? so all i had to do is drill a hole, and pop the stem up through, and then put on the cover and nut. i didn't cut out a rectangular opening.

Skydigger 03-06-2003 09:14 PM

Not having to cut a rectangular opening makes them a lot easier to retrofit.
I suppose if you wanted to mount them in a stock location you could drill into one of those blank plates that pop out.

I think that switch would make an excellent redundant locker switch for those who have retrofitted Toyota's e-locker.

Good stuff.

that is a very nice mod :bigok: looks great, very clean

JSB 03-07-2003 04:32 AM

Hey, the switches look great!
I have another question for you...
Do you have a better pic of your CB and how it's mounted?
Thanks

BTOWN4RUNNER 03-07-2003 04:52 AM

Looks like the inside of a cockpit. I would be tempted to get behind some ricer and talk to my self. "Target in site...target lock, requesting permission to fire" Then I would flip those baby's on and be very disappointed then the ricer doesn't explode into a ball of fire. HEHE. Nice looking though! :fireman:

thundercat 03-07-2003 09:41 AM

here's a pic of the cb. i took out the ash tray assembly and had to cut back the plastic a little bit in the back to slide it in.
