Clutch Cancel problems

2000 Tacoma with a 5sp.

My truck starts without depressing the clutch. I don't even have to activate the Clutch Cancel button, it just starts. I can hit the button, turns the dash indicator light on and still starts without the clutch depressed. Any ideas as to what's going on? Nothing appears to be jumpered so it wasn't a mod. I only ask because my idiot brother isn't used to manuals and ground my truck across the parking lot in gear with the parking brake on because he didn't take it out of gear.

Seems like the button is permanentaly in that mode. Maybe a faulty switch. I would start there.

But if the switch was defective, why would the light on the dash only light when the switch was depressed?

The point I was trying to make was that my truck starts whether the button is depressed or not. Defective button perhaps . . .

There is a button located by the clutch arm that must be depressed under normal starting circumstances. I am willing to bet it is faulty or stuck in the "depressed" position. Have a look at it and see if you see anything.

This may not have anything to do with the CSC button.

Found it!

The previous owner had pulled the plug for the button under the clutch and jumpered it. If it were not a safety issue, this might be a cool mod; never having to use the clutch to start the truck.
