I need to replace my clutch. Typically I would go factory toyota, but I am not impressed by the new design. They changed the spring dampeners in the disc. It now has plastic retainers. I installed one in my brothers 99 taco and it is clunky and noisy. Its the same design that the 6 spd 4.0 tacos use. I've also seen them fail in the new tacos and FJs. So what are the best aftermarket discs? My truck is an 89 4runner with a s/c 3.4. I was thinking ACT but they are very pricey...

I just replaced my clutch on my 98 4runner actually. I went with a LCE HD clutch and the whole deal was 324 bucks if I remember right. After I pulled my head out of my arse and did the rear seal correctly I am VERY pleased with the clutch. Similar feel to stock but much better grip.

I am going through the same struggle... which clutch to get. Is the year of your 4Runner correct in the OP (89 or is it a 98?)

I have been using an ACT clutch with the street performance disk for the past three years with no trouble... sort of... The clutch does not slip (on the street anyway) but I need to push the clutch peddle almost through the firewall to get it to disengage. I am not sure if it is a clutch or flywheel problem but something is wrong and I am getting tired of replacing the clutch master cylinder (it goes bad 2x a year due to the stress to get the clutch to disengage).

Before the ACT with street perf/disk, I ran a 6puck ACT. That clutch worked perfectly except it was a little noisy during take off so after 45K miles, I installed the street performance disk.

I just ordered another ACT 6puck race clutch. This time I am going with the sprung version in hopes it will not make the noise my solid disk made.

Before using the ACT clutch.. I could not find anything that would hold the added power the Supercharger makes...(including a Centerforce Dual Friction).

Yes, It is a swapped 89 4runner. I ran ACT in my old Talon tsi and it would roast all 4 tires no problem. Thats the route I would go, but I just don't have the cash at the moment. Check your pedal bracket. They have a tendency to crack and that causes the pivot point to move, which in turn will make you have to shove the pedal to the floor. In fact, I just replaced one last week for a customer. I think I'll check out LCEngineering. Looks like a decent price. Thanks for the tips

I have used Centerforce in my street rods, customs and my truck. Never had any problems. The instructions and documentation is excellent, quality is outstanding and they perform.

Put OEM Aisin clutches in mine. Never had a problem.

i just got the oem aisin clutch for my 3rz. putting it in soon. ill let you know how it feels

+1. Custom packaged - they put their own kit together with disc, plate, bearings, etc. from dissimilar manufacturers - and work great. Several degrees of "Heavy Duty" available.

Ordered a clutch from marlin crawler today. Hope to have it installed this weekend! Anyone need the throw out bearing or the pilot bearing? I have no use for them and they wouldn't sell me a kit without them for less $. Brand new.

Installed the clutch from marlin crawler today. Pedal feel is lighter than I expected which is nice. Still breaking it in but I'm sure it will be fine. I am definitely impressed with the clutch disc. It is nearly identical to the old style factory clutch, which is exactly what I was looking for
