Clifford Alarms

I just had a matrix 2 installed on my runner. Both the factory and aftermarket alarms are tied into each other. Last night I tripped the facory and then the aftermarket, both within the span of a minute of each other and then I tried to start my runner. The battery exploded...i.e. the top part of the battery is no longer connected to the bottom portion. I have taken some pics and will post them later, but has anyone else had this misfortune happen to them? and if so what was the cause (I've been told all kind of BS ranging from bad wiring all the way to I was in possesion of a positive charge and that was added to the system when I attempted to start the engine).

I Just want to know if I need to yank this mess out of my Runner...she can't take to many more hits captain!

Thanks Group,
Outkast`

I had the Intelliguard 6000 installed in my 2002 Runner and they disabled the factory alarm components first. I haven't had any problems with mine so far.

Sounds Like...

You had an unfused 12V go to ground, it fused itself to the body (probably thru an arc), sent 12V back through the ground cable somehow - just a theory.:dunno:

Damn!!!

Holy crap man! The only way that is even possible is from a severely botched install of the alarm. Even though its widely known I have no love for the "Clifford Alarms" of old, I love the new DEI models. But, the only way that is possible is that someone wired a relay in a way that it would "self destruct" given the right inputs....most likely the installer had no clue what he was doing with the relay, and once it worked, called it a day.

..if you are in the southwest/phx area, I could look at it, and at least explain what happened and repair your alarm.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the input. Outside of taking it to the dealer and having them remove it from my truck, what other paths might I be able to take? I mean I don't like it that much yet.

Clifford???

They wwent out of business about 5 years ago. They had some great ideas but they required 14v to make them work. We only have 12v to offer. Did someone pick up the Clifford brand name?
