"CHIRPING" sound under my truck
I have a chirping sound coming from under my truck and I cannot figure it out. I have a 2.5" lift on my 02 Taco with a add-a-leaf for the rear leaf springs. Everytime I hit a bump in the road I can hear it. I have even taken off my shocks and rode around (what a ride that was!) and I still have this chirping sound. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Sorry about that smart ass remark I made, i ment to follow it up by some helpful ideas but my computer went retarted on me. I too agree that the bushings are to blame.

I know you said it's coming from under your truck, but while you're checking bushings, etc. check your hood latch.
I had an annoying chirp when I was hitting bumps and thought it was my bushings too. Someone gave me this tip and sure enough, a little white grease on the latch assembly and no more squeeks -

Over the last 6 months or so I started to hear a chirping noise coming from the front end somewhere.
It would only happen at certain situations, mostly going over a jarring bump like a pothole or something like that. I tried to jump up and down on the bumper to recreate it but to no avail. I looked at my bumper mounts, grill, fenders, and going so far as to retighten down my body mount bolts but nothing would fix it. Finally last week I jumped up on my running boards (and you guys said I should remove them), grabbed onto my roof rack and started rocking the crap out of the rig and finally was able to recreate the noise. With my buddy hunting around the front end and me looking like an idiot shaking the crap out of my 4Runner he finally spotted where the noise was coming from.
Turns out that at the top of the front shock mount, on both sides, was where the problem was coming from. I took off the nut, washer, and bushing, and greased them up, replaced them and have been enjoying a much more quieter ride.
The question remains, why did they squeek in the first place?

i'm guessing it would come from the springs or joints (bushings) try some wd40 under there like someone else suggested. if that doesn't work, then move on to replacing the busings.

I'll add myself to the list. I have a chirpy/squeaky sound that comes from under the truck (89 4Runner) and can last a second or can go on for several seconds, sometimes appears when i hit a bump but sometimes when just driving, and - the fun part - it's much worse after just re-starting warm (like when leaving a gas station) than any other time. Need a fortune-teller to figure out all these sounds from our trucks.

I`ve had this loud, metallic sound when coasting (no gas pedal) around 5 to 15 mph. To me it sounds like some type of worn bearing sound yet I still can`t find it. The driveshafts are solid and shocks replaced yet still it makes that sound. All I do now is blast TOOL in my cd player and that helps.

I have a chirping problem as well... Didn't do it until I lifted it. It happens on bumps, but mostly when I release the brakes (and force pushes the front end back up). so im thinking its a new piece, or something that is now flexed a little more. I am going to start by checking nuts n' bolts, greasing the driveshafts, then the knuckles (where they attatch to the crossmembers), and if that doesnt work, you gus better have an idea by the time I'm done.
