Check engine

I was on my way to work today and my check engine light came on, along with VSC lights. Just wanted to see if it was normal for VSC TRAC & VSC OFF lights to come on with the check engine light. The code i pulled out of it was p1135, which was air/fuel sensor heater. Just wanted to see if I have more than one problem going on. Not so sure why they would come on at the same time. I have a 2001 4runner SR5 with 124,000 miles.

Thanks,

SCOTT

The VSC and TRAC lights come on ANY TIME the computer throws a code and turns on the check engine light. Its a fail safe because other systems not working properly could make the VSC/TRAC operate in a unintended and unsafe manor.

As far as the code, check the oxygen sensor closest to the engine. Check and see if its getting 12 volts and if it is then check the sensors heater for resistance. It will probably be an open circuit on the heater.

At 124K miles its a safe assumption that you need to replace that front O2 sensor (been there done that).

Make sure to get the for for a 2001 (carb compliant). Toyota went 50 states California compliant in 2001 and it uses a different sensor than the 1996-2000. It also costs ALLOT more too.

Don't use the Bosch sensors either. Get the Denso's, as it will save you time and frustration later. Been there and done that. Here is the Denso site which will let you know what part #'s to get.
