Careful with wrenchs!

So im replacing my headlights with silverstars, and i dissconect the battery. Well I get em installed and lightly connect the battery, test em out, they work nice! So im wrenching my battery cable back on tight, and i slip and let go of the wrench, it lands on my powersteering pump, and is still connected to the battery. Sparks start flying, and some excess power steering fluid catches on fire. I yank it, and find its stuck to the power steering pump, so gave it another big yank and it flys off. Whew!

So just a reminder, be careful connecting those battery cables! :pat:

Sorry about your mishap. I hate wrenches. But only when I have oily/ greasy hands.

Hammers are another thing you should be careful with.

I was pounding a pickle fork today, to get my steering stabilizer off, and the grease in the bushing made the fork slip about an inch, so the hammer went into my hand. I now have new shocks, and a custom made hole on my finger. So be careful pounding the crap out of things when you're pissed cause it's taken you several hours and it still wont come off.

I learned my lesson at a young age, when I was installing a stereo system. I was wrenching on the positive terminal when I came down and tapped the negative. Boy, that will give you a good wake-up!

As the taught me in mechanic school, ALWAYS undo the ground first, then the positive. When re-assembling, connect the positive first, then the ground.

Reason is, if the wrench on the pos hits structure (pwr steering:D , body, engine) it can't spark if the ground isn't connected (there is no circuit). When you then hook up the neg, it doesn't matter if you touch anything else (except the pos) with the wrench, cause it is all grounded anyway.

Yes, I have made sparks myself:redface:

Yeah it will. i madde that mistake once, i learned always to clean the grease and oil off you hands before putting a wrench on the battery cables, you dont want those wrenches slipping.

Also a good idea not to wear jewelry. I made contact with a bolt on the fender while my watch band was touching the positive terminal. That watch hasn't worked since.
