Various Shock Lengths
I started this thread a while back and wanted to update. I couldn't find anything regarding the lengths of various shocks online so I'll post up what I found.
FRONT OEM vs OME:
STOCK: 14 - 17.5"
Old Man Emu: 14.5" - 19.5"
Rear OEM vs OME vs ToyTec:
STOCK: 14" - 21.5"
OME N86: 13.75" - 22.5"
Toytec (pro-comp): 14.75" - 23"
I've had my 881's up front for a while now but I'm running them on the stock shocks. I've decided it's time to fix that since I've got a few bucks. I can't find much regarding compression and extension measurements for front shocks but wanted to know what has the most/least. I'm looking at the OME, Bilstein and Tociko's... are there any lesser know/less priced extended length fronts I should check out? What would you folks recommend?
Also I'm looking for something fairly soft riding as the highways tend to be a bit bumpy round here. In fact I've got a set of OME N86 rear shocks I wouldn't mind selling or trading for n86s OME rears.

So there's a vote for OME. Anybody have the compression/extenion lenghts on these vs other shocks?
What front shocks are the rest of you running with your OME springs?

I think the ext length are ones that generally come with coilovers.
Do you need extended length ?
Are you aware with ext length shocks you risk over extending and busting cv's and ball joints..?
Of course this probably wont happen at the mall..
I have N91S on the front of my junk and I like em.

I thought the OME NS91 shocks were "extended length". I've tried searching all over the place for stock shock lengths to compare the different shocks but it seems impossible to find any shock measurements... i'll run limiting straps to prevent exploding CV's if necessary.
The Bilsteins 5100's look like a good option too... anybody running those?

I cant remember right now if the N91S are extended length, I dont really think it is though.
I dont run limiting straps on my junk, no sway bar and I wheel the piss out of it, I dont worry about the cv's too much..
There's plenty of taco guys on TTORA running 5100's, But if you already have 881's you really dont need those, Keep it all OME.

I ended up ordering the OME n91sc shocks for up front & the toytec extended length rears. I figured the money I saved by getting the toytec rears would pay for the re-alignment that I already need from bashing around the trails and will def need after changing the front shocks. I went with the soft valving to make the ride a little more plush. I'll let you know how it works out after the install. Thanks for the input.

Bilstien 5100's all the way, by far the best shocks I have had on any of my trucks. Gas charged, adjustable perches, lifetime warranty what more do you want. Yes they are a bit more than the OME or Tokico but they will last the lifetime of the truck. They have the perfect ride on a 4runner, soft enough for comfortable street driving, but firm for offroading.
