Brakes done!

I've had my runner for about 6 months now and I've had the warped rotor shimmy since day one. I ordered Brembo cross drilled rotors and Hawk pads back in March knowing that I had to do the brakes soon. Well, its been a busy summer and when I came off the freeway on my way home from work Friday it was metal on metal, time for new brakes.

My 2002 SR5 came with the 16 inch wheels so I ordered the rotors listed for 16 inch wheels. I had done a few searches initially on what everyone was using for pads and rotors. I ordered everything and then sometime in the last few months I saw something here where someone mentioned that you need to check the tire pressure sticker on the inside of the door to see what is listed for tire size. My sticker shows 15 inch wheels so I figured I was going to be screwed. Well, fortunately for me that was not the case. Everything fit perfectly and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I ended up painting the collar of the rotor and calipers with Duplicolor Caliper paint and it turned out pretty well. Bled the brakes and everything is good!

Metal on metal, here's the old rotors. You can see how bad the wear indicators dug into the rotor. I was quite suprised that it was that bad because I never heard the wear indicators. I just had the shimmy...

Rotor on the right still had some pad left, rotor on the left was metal on metal.

Nice work. Always a plus when you can do the work yourself.

I'll probably be replacing my rotors and pad sooner than not.

doesnt the hawk pads dust up really bad?? i know the brembo blanks and the cross drilled are top notch. . would hawk pads really be the ones to go to?

I'm really not sure as this is the first time I've used them on a truck. I have experience with them in a different compound on my race car and have always liked them. I'm going to wash the truck tomorrow so I'll let you know if they dust badly...

Looks great, my rotors are doing the same thing, just a matter of time before I have to replace them. I've been thinking about doing the same upgrade. Just can't decide whether I wanted cross drilled or slotted. Any suggestions?
