brakes and bumpers upgrades on a 3rd gen

Hi guys. Still working an angle for another vehicle. Back to looking at 3rd gens now!:bounce: Heres a question. If I were to buy a 3rd gen. say maybe an sr5 4x4 of the 99 to 01 year, and it had the smaller rotors, what would it take for me to fit it with the larger size rotors like whats on the limited or the sport package? Is it a simple rotor change, a rotor and caliper change, or more?

Also, are painted bumpers like from the sport package or limited easy to swap out?

Are these parts hard to get or just pricey?

The reason I ask is its hard to find just what I want, so it may be easier just to buy what I find and upgrade the parts I want to upgrade. Thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't all the SR5's and Limited's that came with the 16in wheels, have the upgraded brakes. Just look for that.
I am thinking it would be a rotor and caliper change, which wouldn't be too expensive if you found the parts at a junkyard.

The bumper pieces can get expensive. I found that out when I put a 99 bumper on my 98. They should be easy as far as swapping them though..should be unbolt one then bolt on the other.

yea, I am checking the wheels to make sure thay are 16" because they did all come with the larger brakes, but what I wanted to watch out for was the person who had the 15" wheels and upgraded his to the 16" wheels with the smaller brakes. Since Im not sure how to easly measure a rotor, this could be of use. Is there something in the vin or on the door jamb that would let me know if the 16" wheels were from the factory?

hey willie. this is my offer to you to come by and check out anything you want about my 2000 4Runner before you buy yours (or after ;) ). im in athens at UGA if youre close.

Thats a sharp rig there RT. I have to admit though, Im going to be a wimp with our next 4 runner. I want 4WD just to have it for the every now and again off road or the once in a blue moon snow here, but it wont be off road much. I will hold out some so i can get just what I want, but if a good deal comes around that with a few mods will put me at just what I want, then I will take that. Thanks.

Willie,

I don't think there's any easy way to tell- on the door jamb sticker on my 98 it says something about 15's being the wheel size, but I know I've got 16 inch rims and the larger calipers (I tried putting 15's on mine). I priced out parts to switch to 15 inch rims, and new parts ran around 500 bucks when everything was said and done. Some offroaders like the 15's for various reasons- cheaper rims and tires is one. Anyways, I'd just keep an eye out for the vehicle you want. It sounds like the majority came with 16's and large calipers.
