Beadlock wheels or simulated beadlocks
I'm new to yotatech and I must say there is a lot of great info here.
I just purchsed a 04 and was wondering: Do they make and where can I get a set of Simulated beadlock wheels 17X8? Thanks for the help. Oh, by the way does anyone seen the Ivan Stewart TRD wheels on 4 gen runners? |

Thanks for the wheel link
Thanks I will check it out and hopefully locate a dealer.
Thanks again for the help! |
Hey Float, welcome to the board. Its by far the best forum on the web.
About the wheels, I would be a little cautious in choosing Allied because First Toy who is a member on this board ordered the same set up that I have but could not get them corrected for roundness or balancing. I don't have all of the details, but he ended up sending them back to Allied because it would not work together the way it's supposed to. Look around and make sure that you want the beadlocks. There is another manufacturer of a beadlock wheel that looks good and I think they're aluminum. I'll hunt around for the brand and repost here if I can find it. As for mine I have had little trouble besides getting them set up right initially. Since then I have had no problems at all. but whatever you do, make sure you speak with First Toy before you buy the Allieds. An informed decision is way better than clear retrospect. Keep us posted. thanks for the heads up
Thanks 02Runner for the heads up on the Allied wheels and the warm welcome.
I don't real want a true beadloack with all the hassels. Do the simulated beadlock still have these issues? You have simulated allieds right? Do you keep your wheels on full time? I have a new set of 16X8 TRD rims with BF KO's. Before I mount them I was thinking of going with a rim that was a bit bigger and could take some punishment. I real like your and First Toy's set up with the MTR's or AT/s Have you guys had any good conversations around brush guards for the 03-04 runners? I was a Hummer H1 guy for the past 3 years and just sold it to come back to my 4 runner roots with the 04 I just got. Clearance is my main enemy these days with the 4Runner. But evens out in comfort and reliability. Thanks again, Float |
Question on the beadlocks
02 Runner,
What are some of the details I would need to know outside of 17X8 wheel size if I wanted to pickup a new set of Allieds or Street locks ? Is there an off set , bolt pattern? I thought you would be the man to ask since your running that set up right now. Thanks, Greg |

Oh yeah, Welcome. |
Thanks for covering for me Woody.
Cebby. Yeah those Axis wheels is what I was trying to find. They are pretty sweet looking. I think Mickey Thompson also has alumnium beadlockers. My wheels are =12mm offset and a backspacing of 5. Doug |

Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks to all who provided great info on running new rims and tires.
I think the axis regulator is a gret wheel, I'm just not sure a 17X10 will fit stock with out issues. I might go with the Allied sim beadlock 17x8 and bf TA KO 265/70/17. 02Runnner have you had any issues running those rims with your 265/70/17 tires? Thanks for all the feedback I will for sure post some pics when I reach a solution. I'm still trying to figure out how to disconnect the tire pressure monitoring system in the 04's. I tore down the stock rims this weekend to check out the valve stem sensor. It's made to fit the flat stock rim. Any rim with some curves an inch in from the stem will have some serious trouble mounting. Thanks, Greg |
I would not recommend Allied at all. Maybe they will be ok for you but I will tell you they were a nightmare for me. The company stinks at customer service too.
I would say for a trail rig they would be fine but if it were a trail rig, it would have real beadlocks- which I hear Allied is very good at. The only good thing I can say about the Allieds is that they look fierce. That's it. I can only highly NOT recommend for the 4Runner. No offense to Doug because we have already discussed this so no bad light on him at all. 0 offset is the farthest you can go. No negative, it will stick out too far. American Racing.com has several wheels that fit (17" 6lug- 0 offset). The MT classic locks look like a good wheel if you want the look- powdercoat them black. They would look equally fierce. Just noticed these only come in 16" but 16" would still fit- make sure it clears the brake caliper. Tricky with Toyotas. |
thanks for the advice FirstToy
FirstToy
What exactly was wrong with your Allieds? Did they go out of balance quickly? defective wheel? Did they stick out weay too much? Just trying to understand so I don't make the same mistake! Thanks, Greg |
Ivan Stewart wheels and BFGs
Hey Floatplane,
I might be interested in your wheels and tires if you are wanting to sell them. I was planning on buying new tires next week and was thinking about a new wheel. If you do want to sell them can you send me some pics of your wheels/truck? what size are the tires? |
