Baja Widetrack AT

Anybody runnin these? My buddy works for a tire shop and get them for $66 apiece, and I'm due for a new tire. Its either these or the General Grabber AT2s. What do you think?

One_96TR4 Apr 11, 2007 09:14 AM

If i'm not mistaken the baja widetrack's are made by Firestone. There actually a pretty good tire. I don't have the at's on my truck but I have some widetracks on my car and they have been great so far. The tread on them looks pretty mean too. For 66/tire I'd definitely try them out.

I had those on my jeep and had horrible balance problems which in turn made death wobble happen more often..if youve had a solid front axle rig before you know what im talkin about. I ended up changing tires out.

THe general grabbers AT2 seem really goof according to tire rack..

jminz Apr 11, 2007 10:21 AM

ok, scratch the baja's. What do you guys think about the Kumho Road Venture MT KL71?

ukfan_1 Apr 11, 2007 10:35 AM

i just ordered the general grabber at2's a couple days ago...a couple buddies run those and really like them...they say they ride similar to the bfg at's and wear well...we'll see how they work soon!

also, does anyone run mastercraft tires such as the courser c/t? what do you think about them?

MY GRABBER AT2'S ARE GARBAGE!

Do with this advice what you will, but I am EXTREMELY disappointed in my General tires. After 700 miles, HUGE bubble in the left front. Couldn't believe it held air long enough to get to the dealer. 1000 miles later, ANOTHER BUBBLE! Right front maybe? I don't remember. Mind you these are 100% street miles. Now I have a small bubble developing on the drivers rear after about 4000 miles or so...trying to get that one replaced also, but they are saying that it is "normal". I had pics but my comp crashed. They might still be up on the thread I made about it last year.
Just a bad run of tires perhaps, but enough of a pain in the ass that I wish I threw down the extra $$ for some Duelers.

I had a really good experience with my AT2's on my Jeep Cherokee. They wore well, were quiet, and did well when the Cherokee saw dirt or snow. It is possible to get bad batches of tires. I see it often where I work. Don't judge a tire based on one person's experiences.

norcalsvx Apr 11, 2007 04:13 PM

sport king a/t (made by michelin) are a good tire for the $$
i sell the widetracks only to people who want the "cheapest tire"

what size do you need?

Joshs98Runner Apr 11, 2007 05:55 PM

Those bubbles are separation of the steel belts, which means the tire is doomed when that starts...sounds like you got a bad batch for sure.

i have these been a great tire so far and pretty cheap too

^^

Those were made for larger rim diameters, but they offer them in normal diameters too.. they look great.. and the few reviews on tirerack were favorable..

I'd like to see some on a 16" rim.. instead of the picture on tirerack where it's on a large rim..

CJM Apr 11, 2007 07:21 PM

You got a bad batch man, cause the people at tire rack say otherwise. Sure you didnt get the ameritrac TR or grabber AT's...the AT2 is a different tire.

jjrgr21 Apr 12, 2007 05:06 AM

you can run sport kings for about 80k, they wicked hard, and suck in snow or anything wet. but they will last a while, and i never had any problems with flats or balancing. i also had a set of perilli scorpions and they were horrible, never balanced, sucked in the sand and mud. shell out the cash now for some bfg a/t's and they will last a pretty good while.

I'm pretty sure I know what tire I have on my truck.

Funny you mention that, not arguing but like i said in the original post-looks to me like installer error.

Course it could be a bad batch, but a lead like in your picture is def. installer error.

ive got the grabber's i love them! they look great too!

4RKidd Jan 31, 2009 07:26 PM

i assume you are looking for wheeling tires.. i have the baja widetrack on my 4runner, they seem to do very well in all conditions.. the awesome thing about them is the wear on the isnt near as bad as most.. i still have 60% tread on them and ive ran them for 12k. i like them. but id go grabbers if i had the spare change and wheeled a lot.
