Anyone running FZJ80 Wheels on a 3rd gen?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the 16X8 OEM LC wheels on a 3rd gen.

They come with 4 1/2 backspacing which I think will work fine.

FattyCBR 12-12-2003 04:56 PM

Hehe, I picked up one to try it out, the problem is I don't have a tire mounted on it right now so I can't tell you. I'm looking for a set of them so if you find some (or some more after you pick up a set) let me know. The only problem I can see with them is they use an acorn style lug nut, so you have to have 24 extra lug nuts. They're also 15 mm backspacing as opposed to the 22 mm on the stock 16 x 7" wheel. If you actually try them with a tire mounted please let me know.

A guy at work has them mounted on a 2nd gen 4Runner so yes it will work. They look factory on his truck. BTW he's running 265/75r16.

Is there any weight or width difference in the wheels. Just wondering if there was some sort of advantage to using them.

RTdawgs 12-13-2003 06:46 AM

anyone got a pic?

Vato Loco 12-13-2003 07:08 AM

I know someone on the forum has them on their 3rd gen, but I just can't remember who it is.:pat:

They are 16X8 the width is the difference.

Mad Chemist 12-13-2003 09:35 AM

Jim,

Double check, but I think thats the same backspacing on my Tech1 Rockcrawlers, which are also 16X8. Its a tight fit though, not a ton of clearance between the rim and caliper.

My99 12-13-2003 09:52 AM

They are 16X8 the width is the difference.
Which begs the question, what do we (3rd gens) have? 7.5 or something?

Mad Chemist 12-13-2003 09:53 AM

16X7

Some guys go to 16X8 rims when they upgrade to 285/75/16 tires.

My99 12-13-2003 10:05 AM

Wow, 16X7 is kinda skinny. Figured they'd be at least 16X8's. My little old car had 7.5" even. Oh well, guess I won't need to worry about it for at least another 30K miles anyway. Thanks for the info!

ttt

jacksilb has them. I've thought about switching to 80 series rims as well. A while back i asked "Tyler" on 4x4Wire about the specs on his rims. This is what I got:

95-97 Factory Wheels (Alloy wheels)
16" diameter
8" width
zero offset
4.5" backspacing
6 on 5.5" bolt pattern
lugs use flat washers instead of conical lug nuts ('95-'97)

Jack needs to get on here and post a more recent pic - he has DeMello sliders and new rear coils now.

I don't think "cheap" and "Land Cruiser" belong in the same sentence.

Hello,

Sorry about the delay. Too much going on at work.
During my last trip I took some pictures for you. Just need to get home one of these days and format the pictures.

I love these wheels!

They work just great. It made my footprint wider.

BFGS ...
With AT 285 /75 / R16 they work good.
With MT 285/75/ R16 was no game
With MT 265/75 /R16 IT IS PERFECT.

I am considering going back to the 285 ATs. I don't like the MT on wet conditions.
