Any 4r folks with OME in back with Taco/Tundra in front ?

After reading and researching till I am blue in the face, I am looking for a good setup for everyday driving.

I like the reports on the Taco/Tundra front end but do not want/need the 3.5" of lift from LC/LC in back.

I may well run a front bumper so I am going to go ahead and install the top longer studs now and be done with it so I can easily add a spacer later.

I do not plan on a rear bumper or 600lbs of weight and I am just looking for 2-2.5"

I have used Downey 3.5 (2.5s) in the back on my old 99 and found it a little harsh plus I had the wrong (tto short) shocks so I am sure I will use OME shocks in back

Anyone running OME springs /OME shocks in back with the Taco/Tunrdra front ?

(I will will running 32's only on 16's)

David

That is my exact setup...
Front: Tundra springs W/OME 91s and 3/8" spacer.
Rear: OME 891 Coil W/OME n86 and 3/4" spacer.
It's a great setup although I'd rather have the LC springs w/ airbags for a softer around towm ride. In the 2.5 years I've had my 891's they've settled MAYBE a 1/8". I've towed, hauled and wheeled the crap out of them.

I was looking at 890s and n86c's

The 890's wont yield as much lift and the n86c's are too soft for some peoples taste. You could always use the 890's with a spacer to keep the ride soft and give a bit more lift.

Thats is my thinking.

I had Bilsteins on my 99 and really liked them until I added the Downey springs.

Any idea how the n86 and n86c compare to Bilstein ride quality wise ?

Thanks

No idea, I think though that you'd be happy with the lift of the 891's and the damping of the n86c's. Good luck! Steve Schaffer and Bamachem are the experts, be sure to do something about your panhard bar if you go over 2.5".

Yup...

Steve does not care for OME and he documented why.

I could be the ultimate guinea pig and go LC shocks and OME coils....

I am running the 890s and the N86Cs, but I prefer mine a bit more on the softer side.
If you only want 2-2.5" of lift in the rear, the 891s will be too high (you'll need spacers to level it off a bit up front).

I have Bilsteins and 891's in the rear. I got the extra lift I wanted for looks purposes but I have more body roll now. About an inch and a half difference between prior and 891's.

Overall, I don't notice a big difference in ride quality w/ the stock springs and spacers vs. the OME's. Maybe just a bit stiffer, which is to my preference anyway.

OME makes the 4Runner-specific 906 rear coil. Supposed to provide about 2 to 2-1/4 inches of lift with a stock rear bumper.

Well I put my mild lift on today. TRD coils up front (no spacers) and OME 890s out back. Here is a before and after picture. I got 1.75" up front and 3.25" out back. I know they will settle some still. I just put them on, but so far one trip around the block, they feel great.

Gerdo,

The pre-lift look looks like there is a slight lift.

The after-lift look looks great. Looks like you can fit some bigger meat on there.

The pre-lift was the original springs. The rear had sagged so it was an inch lower than the front. It was about 1/4" off the overload rubbers. That is why I got 3.25" out of the 890s. The rear is only 1" higher than the front now.

potsy, I have Bilsteins all the way around. I still haven't realy driven it yet but I will let you know what I think in a week or so. I know that most people go with the OMEs but my Bilsteins are fairly new so I wanted to give them a try.

I think the 1" rake looks perfect, that's what I have on mine too.
Looks alot better after the lift!!!

I have the 891s and hated them for a while. Now that I have 2-12W6s in the rear, the ride is awesome.

If I didnt have any weight in the rear, I would go with the 890s.

If you didn't like downey's, then you need to keep your stock springs and just add some spacers. seriously. downey's are BUTTER SOFT compared to OME's. i like my downey's, but w/ the rear steel, i had to add airbags. they're nice, but they sag under the extra weight - probably over 200# added over stock w/ the rear bumper, carrier, larger spare, hi-lift, and sub box.

i'll go to the LC coils and keep the bags in them to keep them firm. i'm thinking that if everyone gets 3.5" from the LC coils, then i'll get 2.5-2.75" - just right since i have 2.0" up front.

To be fair Andy, I think my problems came from having Bilsteins combined with the Downey's in back. They were too short and too stiff for my application.

I am going to start with OME 890's and comfort shocks and go from there. If I were running 33's, it would be LC springs and shocks as a no brainer but there is no way I need 3.5" in back ( a true 3.5" ) with 32's and a stock rear bumper.

I will be running an Addco up front like I did with my 99 to combat the roll associated with the lift.

David

P.S> I know I have 130k on this 98 Limited but it has the softest most uncontrolled and scary ride of any of my 3rd gens. The 96 SR5 was OK and I was spoiled with the 99 Sport (Highlander) as by all acconts, that had the best set up around.
