Alignment?
I just bought a 98 4runner SR5 4wd and took it in for an alignment. They said I need to replace the inner tie rod and bushing on the right side. I know how some shops can be full of sh#@!! so I got a second opinion. Same diagnosis. They told me it was a dealer only part, so I bought both the tie rod and bushing. I'm tired of paying shops to do the work, so I decided to start doing it myself. Do I need any special tooling, like pullers, for this job. I checked as many tech postings as I could with the little bit of time I have, but couldn't find anything. Can you help me out. Any info is greatly appreciated. Especially pictures.

No, it's easy.
I just changed both of my tie rods myself this weekend. If I can do it, you can do certainly do it. |
is it true?
That only one bushing can be replaced on the rack? The left one is built in, so you have to replace the whole thing. This is what the dealer told me today.

That is correct, yes.

King, do you know this for sure, because he's talking about a 98 with rack and pinion steering, something might be different. (not getting on your case, just want to make sure everybody's talking about the same thing.)
Good to see you here, Matt. |
No.
