I had a flat tire on my 05 4 runner. I was told to check all pressures in tires and then press a button under the left side of dash to cut off light in dash. can't find button, any body know where it is?

You mean the new 4Runners have air sensors in their tires? No wonder they're so expensive.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but if you have a button to cut off the light, I want one in my '04 4runner. Let me know if you find it, the sensors in the 04's are a pita. Hopefully they are different on the 05's.

don't forget to check the pressure in your spare too... my dad had his warning light pop up on the way back home from the dealer.

I talked to a Toyota dealer he said when i get the tire fixed to check all pressures in the tires, even the spare(has air sensor too). The computer is looking for all 5 sensors, so when the tire is back on and all pressures are correct the light should go off. I'll let everyone know if it works when my original tire is fixed and on.

My Alero also has a tire pressure monitoring system, but it does not work with sensors in the wheels (nor do most factory pressure monitoring systems). The way that it works is by sensing a change in the rotational inertia of one tire compared to the rest of the tires. Basically, it senses when one tires is about 5 psi lower in pressure than the rest of the tires, but it is unable to tell you which tire is the problem - you have to find out for yourself, with a tire gauge.

There is also a button (again, in my Alero) behind the dash to reset the system; basically, it zeros out the differential sensor. So, for example, if 1 tire was at 22 psi and the rest were at 32, the light would go on. If I pressed the button, the light would go out, even though the 1 tire was still at 22 psi. Of course, you are supposed to re-inflate the low pressure tire before resetting the system.

Most systems I've seen with individual sensors in the tires will tell you the exact pressure of each tire - if one is a little low, you know which one it is and how low it is without even stepping out of the vehicle.

With the Alero, even if you re-inflate the tire, the dash alarm is still tripped. You actually have to press the button to reset it. I'd look in your owner's manual; there should be specific instructions in there on how to reset the system, and whether or not there is actually a sensor in each wheel or if it uses rotational inertia.
