AC Resister, VSV some lil knob i don't know?!

OK, behind my glove box mounted to the top of the AC cooling unit (the big black box in between the heater core box and the blower moter box) is a small pod with a knob. (see attached picture) The knob turns and clicks towrds the end of a full clockwise rotations. It has two wires running from it one solid blue runs to the AC on/off switch and the other is a black with white stripe connect to nothing?!? There is also a solid wire (looks much like soider wire but very hard) comming out the side which spirals one loop and then down into the box. I think it is a resister of some sort but for...? First question if anyone can help me is what is this knob do. It has crimped on wire connections like it was repaired or put there and may not be stock Toyota. Second question is where does the black and white wire go to... I have a few misc wiring harness connections however this is normal not having all the factory options. One I believe is a five wire up more towards the windshield for the climomenter, another at by the speaker w/ three wires, 2 white w/ blk and one blk w/ white? (pass. side) and one with is comming from the AC on/off switch two wires come from the switch to the harness connection however three are on the other side of the connector...which the third wire happens to be black w/ a white stripe (very good possibility it just got pulled out and may simply be a ground) The picture is worth 1000 words and explains a bit better. This is annoying me! any info will help Thanks!!!!

Although I have never seen one that looked like that Im pretty sure its the ac cut-off adjustment. It adjusts the RPM at wich the AC clutch will dis-engage to keep from killing the motor just before you stall it.
