99LIMITED 2Hi&4Hi BUT NO 4HiL OR 4LoL HELP
Hi just looking for help to figure out why my 1999 Limited will not go into 4HL or 4LL. I can push the multimode button on the transfer case shifter and it will go into AWD and the 4 tires will light up on the dash and if I push it a second time it will go back into 2Hi and the lights go out like they are suppose to. Now this is where the problem comes in, if I pull the transfer case shifter back to engage it into 4HiL nothing happens no blinking lights, no clunk like it has done in the past........NOTHING. If I go through the procedure to put the truck into 4LowL, again nothing on the dash the truck moves forwards as if its in 4lo as in the gear change but the indicator lights do not flash and do not light up! Help/direction would be appreciated Thanks

Did you read the manual?
To move the second shifter into another position, you need to be stopped; shift transmission into N, then move second shifter down. Shift into D or R and it will engage in a few feet.
To get out of it and back to AWD or 2WD, stop, shift transmission into N, move shifter and then move transmission into D or R.
While AWD is okay for dry surfaces, the other gears are not recommended on dry pavement.

I think first we should figure out whether or not the 4wd is engaging. Lights and sensors can fail. Use your imagination and see if you are really lacking 4wd, then we'll start from there.

My thought is that it may be your center diff lock indicator that is on your transfer case.
Here is a thread to help a bit, and some images are in there with the transfer case images.

And you (Maine Runner) should read your manual. Changing from 2WD to 4Hi or to 4HiL does not require you to stop. You only need to drop the tranny in N to go to 4Lo.

Hi ty for the replies, I have owned the truck since new, I know you dont have to stop to go into 4hL but do for 4LL. It is going into awd cuz we have a ton of snow here and in 2wd it fishtails and spins alot. In 4wh it pulls thru the snow like a 4runner does. Thanks again for the help hopefully I can figure out wth is going on........

Hey its me again, I was under the truck today, if you push the pushbutton mm selector on the front drive shaft will not turn by hand. If you try to put the truck into 4HL the front drive shaft spins just like when it is in 2 wheel drive. What does the transfer case selector shifter do that the push button doesnt? What does the selector level do is it control a switch or does it mechanically operate something? It is weird that the truck goes into 4wheeldrive with the pushbutton but not the High or low lock selector. Still looking for advise or suggestions from the infinite wisdom on this forum??
Thanks again
