Anyone besides me have a problem with front wheel weights flying off after having your wheels balanced??
Seems to be a problem with my toyota alum. Wheels.
i know its the clamp on the wheel weight but has anyone adressed this issue because its not the first time for me.
Are you sure the marks we see on the wheels aren't left behind by the weights the shop removed when they balanced the wheels?
If the weights are actually flying off then something is certainly wrong. There are a few different types of wheel weights, even within the clamp on category. The correct type needs to be used for the wheel lip. If the shop used the wrong one that would probably be the cause.
^Agreed, I think you can get FN coated type wheel weights that fit that rim lip, but the adhesive flat weights on the inner lip is the only way to go if you plan to keep your rims looking decent, I give the tire guys a full explanation of what I expect, I remove the centre caps and wheel locks before I arrive, and request 90ftlbs of torque and go over the rims with them before hand noting how mint they are and any damages and ask that they be returned to me in that condition, you would think it goes without saying, but its best to be upfront and picky before hand than a dick afterwards ruining everyones day. Alloy wheels do not like steel clipped to them, they corrode when they chip the rim coating upon install/removal or over time and ruins the rims finish, Toyota dealer destroyed my dads 2011 Taco snowflake rims doing this. And I'm always amazed that I have to tell the tire shops what those markings or yellow and or red dots mean on decent new tires.

There is nothing wrong with clamp on weights besides cosmetics for a normal vehicle. Even with alloy wheels, so long as the wheel is designed for clamp on weights and the correct weight style is used, clamp on weights are fine. Now, hardcore, in the rocks, it's possible for a wheel lip to rub against a rock and to move or pop off a wheel weight.
OP still hasn't replied with whether or not the weights truly flew off spontaneously, or if it's possible that the shop actually removed them in the process of balancing. It looks like the weights were there for a while based upon the marks left behind, not freshly installed during a recent balance. And there is a gap between the weight which is still there and the marks from the now gone weights. Normally in the process of balancing, the weights are all grouped together and centered over the point where the balancer says to put the weight.
Hey guys,
This is not my first rodeo with wheelweights flying off the rims. Yes....they are flying off with a big bang under my wheel well.
1 took 10 minutes.....the other took 3 or 4 days.
They are missing from the outer rim.
I go over the procedure with every tire tech and remind them that the correct WW needs to be used.
I'm just trying to figure out if anyone knows a specific clamp type of weight i need.
The clamp weights work fine if they would only stay on!
Again FN style I think,.. I just had 8 toyota rims done with adhesive flat weights, 2016 trail edition 4R rims still had the original factory adhesive flat weights on them.
