99 coils!!!

I've searched and searched and haven't been able to get a straight answer on my question. My question is if I buy the 99 coils, I need to buy all four right? Also, will I need to replace my shocks, seeing as it's only going to be a 1.5" to 2" lift?

Check out Kit 3.0 on steve's site.
http://www.sonoransteel.com/store_co..._liftkits.html

It says you will get about 2" for a 2wd and 1" for a 4wd.

I don't have that kind of money though. I was thinking of a set of used 99's. Would I need new shocks, because I have rancho's on there now that shouldn't have to be replaced for another 10000 miles?

X-AWDriver 06-05-2007 08:17 AM

How many miles on the shocks now? Coils should be fine for now as long as the shocks are doing their job.

frodin1 06-05-2007 08:21 AM

Yes, your shocks are fine for now. If you go any higher you'll need different ones. I had a 2.5" spacer kit on my truck with the stock shocks and it was fine.

Ive got the coils and KYBs for cheap. Sent you a PM.

jminz 06-05-2007 06:30 PM

i've got the 99 coils on my 00, with the KYB Monomaxs. Much improvement over the stock. I'm having trouble with the alignment though. Not meaning to steal the thread, but is there a wrong way to put on the front shock assembly? Certain way the coils should face?

4runnersurf 06-05-2007 08:10 PM

john...you ordered them brand new? if so, can you give me part #s

johnw999 06-05-2007 08:23 PM

I got the part numbers from this thread:

The shocks are same fore all the years of 3rd gens I believe. So you should be fine with just getting '99 coils and using your current shocks.

frodin1 06-06-2007 01:52 PM

Per steve's write up 99' coils only lift 1" on a 4WD? According to what they also said, these springs were not common. So going by that, I'm not so sure you can just order brand new springs from 99' part numbers and get what your looking for. It sounds like they were not common. You might be able to get 1" from a set of Bilsteins for the same price especially if it's sagging any

aviator31 06-06-2007 03:05 PM

I have a set of 4 off my 99 Sport 4WD if you are interested in them. I'll make you a great deal!

sharrack 06-06-2007 06:37 PM

Just remember............... 99 runners are known to sag a mile in the rear.
I did a 3-4 inch lift in the rear and a one inch lift in the front.
Pretty nice now.
I kept my stock springs, added 3" coil spring spacers and airlift airbags.
A sweet setup that is pretty durable.
