Does anybody know how many bolts (and where) there are holding an R150 transmission to the 5VZFE? I'm trying to remove the transmission to put in a clutch kit but can't find all of the bolts. I think I've removed five. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

6 17mm bolts, plus 4 12mm or 14mm (can't remember exactly) holding on the "splash plate" that covers the bottom of the trans. You also need to remove the starter (2 14mm bolts)

As for locations, just find one sides worth and mirror it on the other side. One of the upper bolts tends to be a PITA to get to, and I find lowering the engine down just a tad makes it easy to get to. My brother and I were able to swap a transmission in a 2000 4Runner in 2 hours start to finish, but only by lowering the back of the trans a bit to get to that bolt.

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like we've gotten five of the six bolts. We're missing one of the ones at the top so we're going to try lowering the engine like you suggested.

a wobbly socket and a loooooooong extension will help.

Yeah. That's what we had to use to get those top two bolts. Any suggestions on getting the transmission lined back up and bolted to the motor. This clutch job has turned into some work. Thanks for the reply.

2 foot extension and wobble sockets.

Tranny jack and some rachet straps with some elbow grease...and hold your mouth right.

Can't really give much advice for lining it up besides "just do it". Sometimes you get lucky and it pops together, sometimes you don't. Mine popped right together. Like I said from start to finish (aka test drive) took 2 hours.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, that's what it took. Extensions, wobbly sockets, and elbow grease. We got the lower bolts in and then lowered the jack to get the top two bolts. Thanks again.
