94 4runner wiring problems
Just a few days ago I bought a 94 4runner
and I was happy...I finally had a decent car. My "Buddy" offered to put my cd player in it. since he has more knowledge (supposedly) about that I let him... I dont know what the hell he did but none of my interior lights, gauges or tail lights work anymore. and somehow I have the sneaking suspicion that the radio wiring doesnt work either the power windows work fine, But im really pissed off. I would like to know if anyone out there knows about 2nd gen 4runner wiring and could provide me with some info so I can fix it myself needless to say this is the last time Im letting anyone fondle my truck. :mad2: |
Disconnect all the wiring your "buddy" did at the stereo/radio and check all of your fuses. He most likely grounded to your parking light wire and burnt the fuse. Hopefully it didn't take out the dimmer switch (as I have seen happen).
Good luck! :bigok: |
I pretty sure he just blew the fuse for the interior lights. I did it when replacing my deck because I cut all the wires at once. I know, it was a stupid thing to do but I was tired and it was getting late. The fuse should be under the hood if I remember right. Just replace that fuse and I bet it will fix your problems.
If you can't find the fuse, let me know and I can probably find it again. Good Luck |
...hmmm....
The bastard didnt even bother
to put everything back together ... he came up and told me he had to go home... when he left I went down to the garage to see his work and I found all the pieces of the dash all over the interior the disc player wasnt even hooked up at all.... I checked some of what he had done apparantly he had cut all the wires... including some of the wires for the alarm Im not particularly good at wiring but I did check the interior fuses one of them was blown (tail lights), but I replaced it... still they didnt work when i tested it... I would be interested in finding out exactly where that fuse is under the hood...I do have some replacement fuses, but if its one of those funny looking ones under the hood, then... I dont have any of those... im still pissed off tho.... :mad2: |
Sound like he may have hooked the ground from ur new radio up to the interior/dimmer circuit behind the deck. In which case it more than likely blew that fuse for the illumination in the factory fuse box. The best place to ground it would be to one of the metal bracket attached to the body behind the deck. Your illumination fuse sould be in the fuse box in the left kick panal.

Okay this is really going to piss you off but you should now. First off your buddy should not have been cutting ANY wires since you can buy a wiring harness for a second gen for 6 bucks which will plug right into the factory plug. Then all you do is wire it together with the INSTRUCTIONS to your CD player plug. 2nd the fuse for the interior lights is behind the little square on the drivers side kickpanel. There's a whole set of fuses there. I have blown my gauge lighting ones twice screwing with my indiglo's. And 3rd smack your buddy upside the head and find some new friends...haha:laugh: :bang: :booty: :nopity:
