90 AMP Alternator
 

Well my old alternator started squiling:pat: Sooooooooo...............

I just called a local automotive electrical rebuilding/supply house and talked to the owner. I asked him if there was any chance of stepping up the out put of the stock alt. and he said he could order a 90 amp and quoted a price of $176.36 with the core.

BINGO I have a 90 amp alt on and the truck seems to run much better as well. I guess it is getting more juice to the fuel pump and the ignition. This is all I can think of as my wife's 4Runner is the same as mine, except it is a 2x4 and mine is a 4x4, and the windows are slower than mine and it feels slightly sluggish next to mine now. The lights don't dime at night like they used to when I turned on the air or something like that.

All things electrical work much better now.

Also he told me to use the Tocoma pulley on my wife's alt. and it would spin the stock alt. faster enabling it to supply voltage sooner and deliver a little more as well.

This is something the board member may want to look into doing.

I may look into a higher output one too on account of the audio system and the winch.

Good deal. Any idea if it's availble for third gen runners? I had heard that the alternator off of second gen MR2s work with an adapter bracket, but I like your new, 90amp alt better.

Corey, it cost me $176.36 and a rebuilt factory was about $126.
So I just put a little more money with what I would have spent and got 30 more amps.

I thought why not spend a few bucks more and get something that will help me more than just factory specs? Wasn't that much more either.:hillbill:

Corey you should try it with all the demands you put on your charging system.


I don't know about the thrid gens.:dunno: Just call around to the automotive electrical rebuild/supply shops and ask. That's what I did.
