650.00 dollars later......
and I have a brand new timing belt. This weekend I did a hole lot of maintance on the truck. I replaced the following:
Timing belt Water pump idler pullies Drive belts belt tensioner thermostat Front O2 sensor MAF sensor I did it at my friends shop so there was no labor cost which was great. It was a pretty easy job once you got everything out of the way. I bought the truck used with 65K on it and never could find out if the timing belt had been changed. I replaced it at 131K and it still looked in great condition. For anyone that is going to change the tensioner please be warned it is a pain the ass to get to with out removing the A/C bracket. The truck seems to run smoother and quieter which is nice. I'm once again happy with my truck. Time for brakes next. 2000t4r |
Well sitting here with 125k on my 99 and have the Tbelt and other parts in the garage. Looks like I had better get on the stick and do it too!! im just not planning on replacing the tensioner. Any reason in particular you did?

Good job on that, sounds like Millertime now.
You can do the T-belt without removing the AC bracket, but I always do anyway and it saves alot of headache. |
I replaced the tensioner only for insurance, I had one fail on my H22 accord. You can change the T-belt with out removing the A/C bracket, you only need to remove it if you are going to replace the tensioner.

I'm not sure what my cousin did when he did mine but I know he pulled the whole plenum off to replace the top roller.. that was a PIA.

i just bought a 4 runner with 175,000 when i do the coolant flush im gonna pop that cover of to see what it looks like...although it seems the previos owner took very good care, some parts that are new are OEM which I love. what the best way to see if the timing belt should be replaced, cracks and tension?
