I parked next to a 4Runner identical to mine in every way except his was lifted more than mine. I looked closer and couldn't see a long travel kit, bodylift, or anything. His truck just has larger springs. My truck is already lifted 3 inches front and rear, but compared to his it was puny. I thought a lift higher than 3inches couldn't/shouldn't be achieved without swapping control arms? I've included some pictures to help show (click images for hi-res).

 

Adding more lift is unnecessary unless you are wanting to run a bigger tire than you currently are.

Being taller than necessary is a BAD thing. For handling on and off road.

Sorry but I can't tell anything from your pics.
If you did a tall enough spring in front to get 5", you would have little to no droop. Unless you went with big top out spacers or longer shocks, both will allow too much droop and the CVs will over-extend and fall apart. You could go with a drop bracket lift but..... That is another discussion all together.

 

It looks to me like the one picture on the left has a large top out spacer...was this rig a 4x4?
If it was not a 4 wheel drive maybe he is getting away with a 3" suspension lift with a big top out spacer also....I would think this might cause some other issues with ball joints and stuff though....

 

In the pic under the fenderwell your uppercontrol arm is almost level at ride height. Thats good, means you still have droop with your lift. He is way jacked up with no droop, and honestly you could not align that truck like that. His ball joints will go out faster than a poptart in a toaster.

Not too mention if you want a big lifted truck, you should have bought a half ton chevy and got a 8inch lift, and we could just adress you as bro.

 

Looks from the photo he's got a drop bracket lift. I ran one for quite a while. It worked great, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Its just too scary to be that high off the ground when wheeling.

I checked out that 4runner again to see his clearance on his CV's.

I'll try and get a pic next time I see it around, but the rubber around the CV boot was completely ripped all the way around. I'll keep trying to find the owner to see if he knows about it, but I have a sneaking suspicion this 4runner has never been off pavement. The undercarriage is till perfectly black!

If you want 5 inches why not body lift?
