3rd Gen headlamp wiring

I am interested in adding a wiring harness to reduce voltage drop, but I noticed that there is already a relay in the fuse box for the headlamps. Is this relay in the fusebox triggered by the headlamp switch on the steering column? Does this relay supply power directly from the battery to the lights? If this is so, then even with the small guage wire the 4Runner has the length is pretty short (voltage drop neglegible). I was told that the wires used in headlamp systems went all around the vehicle from the inside switch to the battery to the lamps, but this relay in the fuse box seems to show against that. I want to keep using stock 55W bulbs. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or some input to help me out? Thanks

On a related note....
Who makes an aftermarket plug-n-play headlight harness for the 3rd Gen Runners?

I know painless wiring makes a harness that 3rd gens can use....but the DRL feature with the harness means that the low beams will be on at full intensity. Also Daniel Stern sells all the parts needed for a harness, you just have to get your wire of choice and make it yourself. Make sure you get a system that is meant for "ground-switched" headlamps. Can anyone help with the DRL problem?
