3rd Gen frt Bills (ride height & bushings)

Hey all,

Installed Bilsteins in the front of '96 4Runner last night with a friend -- they ride great but 2 questions:

DO the Bilsteins with the stock springs alter ride height? The rig seems a but higher now? Or is that just because the shock is actually working now (as opposed to worn stock shocks).

Also, didn't have the right bushings, so had to use smaller sway bar end link bushings when mounting to the upper strut mount. Will I get by with this or should I change to correct size bushing ASAP? It doesn't seem to make any noise...

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

Mike

To answer your first question, shocks do not raise and lower the height of your rig...springs do.

Right...but since it's a coil-over type set up, the shock can alter the spring rate, no? Or at least the "effective" ride height could change if the shock was a bit different from stock, right?

I'm just concerned that maybe I got the wrong shock or it's installed incorrectly.

thanks for the help

Check my Bilstein page for some tips...

Basically they will only alter height if installed incorrectly.

Excellent - just what I was looking for - thank you. They are definitely installed incorrectly.

I guess that gives me a reason to get the right bushings this time, too.

Thanks for the help.

Hmmm.... my ride height seemed to increase too after I had my Bills put on, but everything (spring seat, etc.) is lined up correctly. My camber is a bit off, so maybe that has something to do with it.
