Question 3.0 cmashafts: Are they keyed?

Howdy,

I'm finally putting back together my 3.0, and while putting the camshaft sprockets back on, there seems to be a missing "key". The sprockets have a notch that lines up perfectly with a hole in the camsaft. I wonder if my machine shop took these out for some reason? Or am I just hallucinating?

check out my head project album on webshots. There is a photo near the top I believe with the hole in question being pointed to .

If my memory is correct there is a metal pin that goes into the sprocket and into that hole. It's been a couple of years since I took the sprockets off, so things are a little fuzzy on the details.
There has to be something to keep the sprocket and cam lined up, or you valve timing would never be correct.

Yup 1 metal pin in each sprocket. I orderd mine along with other stuff from here http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/ thay are only 1 state away for me and about the cheapest place on the net I can find to buy OE stuff. The pins you speak of cost me .70 each. Let me know if you need a part number.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, got the cams back and the pins were gone. After looking at the FSM I found out they are not pressed in. :pat:
