2nd Gen Airbox Mod
I just did the Airbox Mod on my 93 4runner last night. Took about a half hour and was well worth it in my opinion. You get a nice deep sound when you give it some gas and it seems to have added a bit of power. Not a ton, but it's free horsepower.
If you want to try it here's the link: https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech...irbox/joey.htm |
i am thinking of doing it too. but i dont know if i should drill holes and how many or if i should cut the whole bottom out. I think i would rather drill holes in the box, but does that mean the more holes the better??

I just drilled holes exactly like the picture from the link. I don't feel comfortable with the whole bottom cut out.

did you guys notice any difference in mpg from drilling a few holes and removing the intake hose from the box? reason I ask is with the 3rd gen guys doing the deckplate mod, some of them say it messed up their gas mileage...

Here is how I did my pattern for reference. When you drill it, make sure you clean out ALL the little bits left behind. |
have any of you guys adjusted your airflow meter afterwards? I've read that when you have more air going in u need to adjust it a bit to make the engine run a bit richer..

Well, here is mine for reference as well. There has been no change at all in gas mileage. It seems like it pulls a little harder at high rpm but I wouldn't swear to it. Makes a cool sound though. :hillbill:

Here's mine.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...4/fa1532fb.jpg I cut between the two mounting bolts and took out that hole side and part of the bottom. It faces the fender so I'm not worried about getting water in it. :bounce2: |
