255/75/17 mud terrains on with no lift

Dont really see many people running this tire. On the tire calculater they measure 32x10 which is about 1/2 inch taller then the normal 267/75/16s people are running without a lift. Rims are FJ cruiser steelies that I got for $45 a piece off ebay. Tires are take-offs from a new jeep rubicon, size 255/75 17 BFG mud terrains.

No rubbing at all , even at full lock. My runner is a very early '00 (built 9/99) so I may have the taller springs in there. I do plan on lifting it in the next couple months. I already have LC springs, OME rear shocks, and a diff drop. I will be getting the SS econo coilovers for the front.

I run the same tire. I always see them cheap on Craigslist since so many JK guys immedieately upgrade to a bigger tire. Replacing them should be cheap, right?

I am running FJ cruiser stock take offs, rattle canned black. Sonoran Steel 1.2 lift

You obviously haven't wheeled it with those tires yet if you haven't heard them rub. I have 4" of lift and I've cut and pounded a good amount on my front fenders and I still can make my 255s rub a little bit at full lock if I come down off a rock and compress the suspension. The tires just barely brush the fenders now so it doesn't bother me, but you will rub like a mofo if you off road it.

He's only running a skinny 32". I wouldn't be surprised if he rubbed when backing out of a driveway at full lock though. BTW brian, you have a build up thread on here?

No I havent wheeled it yet..most of the wheeling around me is mild trails and mud..no rocks. Your 255s are a full inch taller then mine as well so that needs to be kept in mind. Im sure under a full compression lock it will scrub some, but I dont plan on doing much wheeling until its lifted anyway. Truck is being built as a camper/cruiser/hunt camp/mild trail rider.

Yeah I was thinking the 255/75R17s were the same height as my 255/85R16s so never mind what I said about the rubbing. You should be ok with those as they aren't much if any bigger than 265/75R16s and lots of people run those with no lift. I'm having a rough day, usually I think a little more before I post.

CYi5, I'm actually working on a build thread (trying to get all my old pics together of the various stages it's been in over the past ~9 years. Thanks for noticing, your truck is sick too!

A 255/80/17 is equivalent to your 255/85/16.

I'm hoping to run the FJ steelies on my Tacoma (and hopefully can find these same take-off tires locally) and I've been wondering about backspacing.

flashooter - Are you running a wheel spacer at all?
