22RE Head Gasket replacement - OE Toyota or aftermarket ok?
Everyone,
I am in the process of replacing the head gasket (and a bunch of other stuff - steel-backed (DOA) timing chain rails, RV cam, ported head , etc.) on my '89 22RE after the one currently on the engine blew.
My question is whether I should install an OEM Toyota head gasket, or if one of the new 'graphite impregnated' head gaskets (sold as the latest in engine sealing technology) would actually work out and be ok? I don't want to go back and re-do this job (not that's its all that hard... just really time consuming).
I'll get whichever one is best... just want to know if the OEM is the way to go, or if there truly is a better alternative for this part.
Thanks much!!

When an original head gasket can run 200k why go any where else. I'd also recommend new head bolts even if they look good. I read somewhere that they are designed to 'strech' slightly. No need to be tha close to completion and you twist one off trying to get to 58 ft/lbs. Price is well worth it.
