22r truck engine into a 20r 77 celica body?

Hey friend of mine has a 77 celica that has a blown engine and I have an 81 toyota 4X4 that has a blown tranny. So he offered me a really great deal on the car and said it was mine for the taking if I came up with the money. Only thing is that his celica is a 20R and my truck is a 22r. Has anyone ever put a 22r in a car that was meant to have a 20r? How hard is it? Do the engine mounts line up, does the engine match up with the 20r transmission? I would probably have to mess with the wiring, but what else can I anticiapate modifying. If you have done this swap before please post up any advice you have and let me know asap. Thanks a lot for your help-Sampson

for the purposes of swapping, the 20R and 22R are the same engine. the 22R will bolt directly into place, as long as he puts his celica oilpan and oil pickup on the 22R. also, he should get a fuel pump block-off plate for the 22R as vehicles with a 20R came with an in-tank fuel pump. the coolant hoses for the 4x4 and celica are different, best to just swap the celica's hoses over(with the exception of the lines on the intake manifold that run the 20R water choked carb...the 22R has an electric choke). it should become pretty clear when you do it, just compare the engines side by side.

now, the intake manifolds, heads and carburetors are different between those engines, but the bottom end is virtually the same and the tranny pattern/flywheel are exactly the same. sort of like swapping a 350 chevy in the place of a 283.
