22R-E Will Not Start

I bought an 86 4Runner its manual and 4cyl.....

it will not start..... the PO said he went to a friends house and when he left it stalled out at the end of the driveway so he started it back up and went back up the driveway and parked it.... he had it towed to a mechanic who said the timing chain snapped.... then had it towed home where it sat for 6 months before i bought it..

i tore the motor down and the timing chain is tight and not broken.

what else??

ignition - coil - distributor
fuel sending problem
timing chain slipped

i now have the motor back together and gonna
-put oil back in tomorrow
-pull the fuel line and see if its coming out
-use starter fluid to see if it fires

LoL... well if he started it back up and drove back up the driveway the timing chain Deffently was not broke.

what is it doing now? just will not crank back? turns over?

Something similar happened to me. I thought for sure the timing chain was broken on my 86 22re. Opened it up, and the timing chain was there, however, it had jumped a tooth or two & munched valves. in fact, I had no compression in any of the cylinders.

If you determine it is the timing chain, when you pull the cover, check to see if things are correct at TDC.
