Which 2003 4Runner to buy?

I am looking at buying a new 2003 4runner. I test drove several today and noticed a distinct difference in the ride. Some were smooth over the bumps and others were jerky and truck-like. The V6 comes with multi-mode 4wd, and the V8 comes with full-time 4wd. It seemed like the V6 had the smooth ride everytime. If I go with the Sports Edition, V6, it has X-REAS suspension added. Will this effect the ride? They all had 17" tires on the test vehicles. What factor here is making the ride rough? The engine? The different 4wd options? I like the looks of the 4Runner and the practicality of it. But I don't want the "truck" ride for long highway trips. I won't be using it off road, but like the 4wd for snow and ice.

I currently own a 1983 SR5 Toyota Truck (still runs), a Toyota 2001 Tacoma, and a 1995 Toyota Celica. I obviously love Toyotas.

Welcome!

Welcome to Yotatech, Ready. Considering the volume of 'Yotas in your garage, you are probably more qualified to answer MY questions, than vise-versa! :dunno:
Maybe Jay can pop in on this subject. I bet he knows. I just wanted to say welcome!

Only a guess, but the ride quality among OEM tires will vary by brand. I've seen four brands on the new Runner: Michelin, Dunlop, Bridgestone and Goodrich. My bet would be on the Michelins for best on-road ride. Also, you'd need to confirm that all vehicles were running factory tire pressures. Too many variables to call, other than the V-8 weighs 130 lbs. more than the V-6 so that MIGHT have an effect on ride.

Much has been written about the X-REAS suspension designed by Yamaha, all good.

Tomorrow I'll go back to the dealer and do some more investigating. Looks like from my research, that the X-REAS is a good thing and I will include that somehow. I'll probably go with the V6 as well. Maybe the Sports model, maybe the Limited. I have no need for the extra V8 power. Lots more research to do before I make my final descision. Thanks for the help. Anymore opinions would be greatly appreciated.
